Recipe 3: Managers who communicate with confidence

Pity the poor line manager! So much is expected of them, not least being the two-way conduit for so many comms. And right now team meetings, a foundation for much of their comms and engagement role, have gone virtual or disappeared altogether under Covid-19 pressures. Give them a comms cuddle and make sure your manager comms menu is inclusive and sustaining.

LEVEL: Moderate

Chef’s tips
  • Pick your interviewers carefully. They need to be experienced and neutral

  • Have HR and leaders on board at an early stage so you can coordinate your response

Ingredients and method

This one’s personal, so tact and diplomacy are key. One to one phone interviews are really effective.

It’s not all about tools and resources, it’s about whether they have the confidence to do their comms role and what would really help them out. So tread gently. Give them the space to air their concerns and encourage them to share their own recipes for what they do well.
